(Q 01)

Tissue planting banana plant production process can be basically divided into three parts. Preparation of mother plants, laboratory process and plant breeding in nurseries. After these three processes, a tissue Culture banana plant  is suitable for planting in the field.

1) Preparation of mother plants. - We produce the mother plants required by our company. This is done under strict quality control and only the highest quality healthy mother plants are used.

2) Laboratory process. - Although we, La Agro, do not own a laboratory.

But We work with two of the highest quality laboratories in Sri Lanka. Here we produce the required plants responsibly under our direct supervision.

3) Our  Plant hardening in nursery  is in Athurugiriya, the plants taken out of the laboratory are well grown. Here you will be subjected to strict quality control with the aim of getting the highest quality plant in your hand.

What is banana tissue culture?

(Q 02)

Let us briefly identify the tissue culture process.

What is done here is to produce about 200 to 300 plants per plant in a laboratory using very healthy and high quality banana tubers (mother plants).

This process takes at least 8 to 10 months. This process does not cause any genetic modification to the banana plant and produces a normal but high quality banana plant.

This is simply a superior method of producing plants, not a method of modifying plant characteristics or producing hybrids. In short, this is a typical very small banana plant.

This method is very successful and profitable in commercial plant production.

This method is only used in the production of plants in the developed countries of the world and is becoming more popular in Sri Lanka these days.

At La Agro, we strive to use the latest technology to deliver a high quality, healthy banana plant to farmers at the lowest possible cost.
